Find things

Find your downloads

Type dl: to find a file you downloaded, then show it in its folder, retry a failed download or copy where it came from.

Skip the menus: type dl: in the palette.

Commands

Show in Folder
Reveal a downloaded file in Finder or File Explorer
Retry Download
Pick up a failed download, or start it over
Download Again
Fetch a file you moved or deleted
Copy Download URL
Copy the address a file came from

You downloaded a PDF an hour ago and now you can’t remember where it went. Instead of opening the downloads page, type dl: and part of its name.

Search your downloads

Type dl: to see your 50 most recent downloads, newest first. Keep typing to narrow them by file name or by the site they came from. Downloads only show up after dl:, never in the regular search. You can also type “downloads” and pick Search Downloads.

Each row shows the file’s name, the site it came from and its size. A download that didn’t finish says Failed, a file that’s no longer on disk says Deleted, and one still running shows how far along it is.

Downloads from a private window only appear when you open the palette in a private window.

Act on a download

Enter does what the row most likely needs:

  • A file that’s on disk opens the folder it’s in (Show in Folder).
  • A failed download starts again (Retry Download). Vokto resumes where it stopped when the site allows it.
  • A file you moved or deleted downloads again (Download Again).

⌥ Option Enter (Alt Enter on Windows and Linux) lists every choice for that file, including Copy Download URL, which copies the address the file came from.

Vokto doesn’t open the file itself. Chrome would ask everyone to approve a new permission for that, so Show in Folder takes you to it instead.
