QR codes
Show a QR code for this page so your phone can open it, or read the QR codes already on the page without pointing your phone at the screen.
Commands
- QR Code...
- Share this page or read the QR codes on it
QR codes go both ways. You found a recipe on your laptop and want it on your phone. Or a page or a PDF shows a code, and you’d rather get the link without aiming your phone at your own screen. QR Code… handles both.
Send this page to your phone
Choose QR Code…. The first row, Copy QR Image of This Page, shows the code for the page you’re on in a panel beside the list. Scan it with your phone’s camera and the page opens there.
Press Enter to copy the code as an image, for a chat or a slide. A message confirms it with a small thumbnail. Click the thumbnail to save the image.
The code is always black on white, even in dark mode, so phones read it reliably. Vokto makes it on your computer, without going online.
Read the codes on a page
Below that first row, Vokto lists any QR codes it finds on the page, in pictures and in things showing on screen, like a PDF preview in Gmail. Each row shows what the code holds and where it was found, like “Link in image” or “Wi-Fi on screen”. The panel shows the full content, so you can read a long link before you open it. Moving to a row outlines that code on the page.
What Enter does depends on the code:
| Code | Enter | ⌥ Option Enter offers |
|---|---|---|
| A link | Open in New Tab | Copy Link, Copy QR Image |
| Wi-Fi details | Copy Password | Copy Text, Copy QR Image |
| Anything else | Copy Text | Copy QR Image |
On Windows and Linux, use Alt Enter. Copy QR Image gives you a sharp new copy of the code, which helps when the original is a blurry scan in a PDF and you want to pass it on.
Links show their real address plainly, so a lookalike address pretending to be a site you know stands out before you open it. Vokto only ever opens ordinary web links from a code.
Where reading works
Reading codes relies on a feature Chrome has on macOS and ChromeOS, but not on Windows or Linux. There, QR Code… still shows the code for the page you’re on.
Vokto can miss a code that’s part of a page’s background design, or one in an image that’s scrolled out of view. Scroll the code onto the screen and open QR Code… again.
