Keyboard shortcuts

Every key that works in the palette, and the short prefixes that limit a search to your tabs, history, bookmarks and more.

Everything in Vokto works from the keyboard. This page collects the keys and prefixes in one place, so you can pick them up a few at a time. Where a Mac and a PC differ, the Mac keys come first.

The keys

Keys What they do
⌘ Cmd Shift K or Ctrl Shift K Open or hide the palette
↑ ↓ Move through the results
Enter Run the highlighted result, or open its submenu
⌥ Option Enter or Alt Enter See more actions for the highlighted result
⌥ Option 1–8 or Alt 1–8 Run the row with that number
⌘ Cmd Enter or Ctrl Enter Open the highlighted address or search in a new tab
⌃ Control Enter or Ctrl Enter Search the web for what you typed (on Windows and Linux, only when the highlighted row isn’t an address or search)
Esc Go back one step

Want a different shortcut to open the palette? Settings explains where to change it.

Going back, and hiding

Esc backs out one step at a time. It leaves a submenu first, then clears what you typed, then leaves a prefix like t:, and finally closes the palette.

Pressing the open shortcut again only hides the palette. Open it later and your search, your place in a submenu and the results are all still there. Closing with Esc, running a command or clicking outside the palette starts you fresh next time.

Row numbers

Hold ⌥ Option (or Alt) and a number appears on each row you can see. Press 1 to 8 while holding it to run that row. Section headings don’t get a number, and after you scroll, counting starts from the top row on screen. ⌘ Cmd or Ctrl with a number still switches browser tabs as usual.

Prefixes

Type one of these at the start of the search box to look in one place only.

Type To search
t: Your open tabs
h: Your history
b: Your bookmarks
l: Links on this page
f: Forms on this page
files: Images, videos and downloadable files on this page
c: Your clipboard history, if you turned it on
r: Random numbers, passwords and other generators
snooze: When a snoozed tab should come back
rename: A new name for this tab
group: A new name for this tab’s group
session: A name for the tabs you’re saving
/ The parts of this page’s address

Capitals work too, so T: is the same as t:. Press Backspace in an empty box to leave a prefix.

Can’t remember one? Type what you want, like “history”, and a row offers to take you there. Keywords such as yt: work the same way for other sites; see Search a site with a keyword.

When the palette is empty, a row of buttons sits under the search box: Tabs, History, Bookmarks and Snooze. Press Tab to reach them, ← and → to move between them, and Enter to pick one. ↓ or Esc takes you back to the results.

They stay out of your way. Open the palette and press Enter, and you still run the top result.
